I don’t write or create content entirely for engagement, but if the digital world is a representation of our physical spaces, and we move into a digital-based reality, I guess my 15 terabytes of digital real estate online is where I do my thing. Like I would be tending to my own garden, or house.
If we were playing in a simulation-type video game, and I’m just a random person you stumble upon while scrolling (or walking) past me. Then going into my profile and subscribing to The Office Mess would be like personally delivering your subscription card to the magazine by hand. Crazy. When you stumble onto The Office Mess, you’ll be getting premium service by your host, LUi. I guess I was preparing for the inevitable when I learned how to do a magazine-style approach to writing, posting, and analysis. Upsi. I rarely repost visuals that aren’t mine. Not talking about stories or my Close Friends on IG they get all the good reposts. I mean on my own channels. Let it be IG or Substack. I’m always creating original work, or using my own extensive archive. So consider subscribing to TOM 😈.
Ten years ago, I used to wonder how the people I admired moved so fast. But then again, a young 21-year-old LUi had nothing in the race compared to LUi at 31. I get it now. I was watching and liking people on Tumblr who had five, ten, even twenty years on me. I remember getting 75,000 reblogs on a photo once and feeling like a god. The Tumblr chronicles area always fun to remember. It’s Sunday, and I’m chilling. Writing with no plan, but excited to deliver a letter tonight at 10:30 PM. So do me a favor.
Please run to Middlebrow’s latest episode with Delaney Rowe. It was funny AF and inviting.
I felt like I was sitting near people in a small chic spot, drinking a martini but ignoring my own table cause… how do I get on their table kind of moment situation, you know what I mean? There’s a part I’m genuinely curious about whether it was planned or improv but at 19:54 minutes, the “commed” situation had me. Delaney played on it perfectly. Either it was natural or she just nailed it. I don’t think it was scripted. I choose to believe they were just that good.
When Brian and Dan do an episode with people like Kareem Rahma or Delaney Rowe, it feels like they’ve been friends forever. They plug casually and keep rhythm. They’re comedians, so it makes sense. But that’s not what makes the podcast good although they are funny as hell. If you don’t get the vibe, then we might not connect too much further down the line (lol). What makes Middlebrow my next pick for center-stage contender is their style, taste, social society analysis, and their takes on different industries from design to politics to New York. Just like Kareem is exploding right now, and a new gen of accounts are popping up (Feed Me, Throwing Fits, Brenda#). All talked about here at The Office before as main players. The Middlebrow is about to dominate. Rooting for them either way.
See you at the office,
LUi.
