The title of this letter is obviously sarcasm, but I had to grab your attention somehow. Mexico’s gastronomic scene is no hidden secret, but just in case you’ve been living under a rock, let me tell you—over the past 10 years, I truly believe my country’s kitchen is the best in the world.
My experience in Mexico City after a decade has been nothing short of incredible. Sure, I could talk about all the downs and sideways quests I’ve had over the years, but if I read another dramatic and lazy post about how hard life is, I might just lose it. Not that I don’t feel for y’all, but let me just vibe for once—without caring so much about capitalism.
This month, I gathered my crew to indulge in Chef Micael Crespo’s kitchen and Creative Director Isabel Castillo’s vision with their latest endeavor in the heart of Condesa, Mexico City. The restaurant doesn’t even have a name, which makes me feel like a celebrity. Hey, a man can dream.
SIN NOMBRE or LA ESQUINA, or at least what we named it.
With the privilege of walking through the city, we made our way to this intimate, nameless gem that has quickly become Regina’s go to. If you know, you know. If you don’t, well, I guess I’m letting you in on the secret.
The place is a chef’s counter meets neighborhood bistro—a perfectly balanced mix of fine dining precision and that effortless, slightly chaotic, Mexico City charm. There’s no grand entrance, no neon sign, no performative marketing—just good food, amazing wine selection, and good energy. The menu? Ever-changing. The cocktails? Sneakily lethal. The vibe? Effortlessly cool.
We arrived and the emotions where starting to boil up. The white table cloth the scene, the waiters, the bar, everything captivates instantly. You wan to stay there and order until your card doesn’t run through any more. The dream, haha.
The bread was just simple divine. My mouth waters as I write this, god damn it.
For this round I opted to do a video instead of photos, so please enjoy:
To finish indulging in what might have been one of my favorite dinner ever, we ordered the 3 Leches dessert, and I while I know I don’t have the authority to say this, it was the best dessert I have ever had.
It was my birthday this past 25th of January so I got a little candle with this divine dessert.
Why You Should Go
If you’re looking for a place that doesn’t scream at you through Instagram ads but instead whispers its way into your heart through damn good food and genuine hospitality, this is it. La Esquina (as I’m calling it) is a reminder of what Mexico City does best—creating spaces that feel like home, but better.
If you find yourself wandering through Condesa, take a seat at the counter, order whatever the chef recommends, and trust the process.
Thank you Rafa (FYL) & Rex.
Hope you enjoyed this letter & video.
See you at the office.
