Most people will see this title and probably dismiss it quickly. Maybe it’s irrelevant to them or possibly cringe. I actually used to find the whole social media talk pretty lame. Over time, and as the nostalgic feeling of the old editorial world faded and social media took center stage, slowly, the subject started to evolve in my mind. (Now I may be all up for it.)
I understand that most people believe that to them social media is not important, but it is. It shapes and creates the world we live in today. Even if you don’t like it or maybe despise it. Let me say that I am down for change, going back to nature and feeling the breeze. These platforms truly suck sometimes, but we are still on them. We are addicted. Over the past 12 years, I’ve had my good and bad years with my consistent toxic girlfriend, aka IG. For me it’s a woman, but hey you do you.
Instagram has given me so much, but also taken so much. You could even say that changing my beloved tag I ran with for 12 years was a cry for help. You see I love playing games and I am highly competitive. Social media at least to me is just another video game that feels like a 4 am after-party I’ll regret going to in the morning. I even bought a second iPhone for content creation, consumption (more reading now, thank you Substack), and as a tool to my addiction. A powerful tool. Maybe you’re reading this and thinking, this guy is crazy. Maybe I am. Or maybe you are vibing, and if so, then you are missing out. Having a second iPhone is just amazing. I don’t use it as a phone or text anybody on it key function, if you’re doing a second iPhone in a similar regard.
Go watch Carmen’s video and then come back if you’re not lazy to read a little.
